Goodbye, Fermin.

Fermin, my good friend, died. Suddenly. Unexpectedly.

Shocked, I wanted it to be a bad joke when one of our friends called me last night.  I held off on grieving until I heard from more people this morning.  Someone asked me where we could send cards or our sympathies, I felt the flowers and condolences should be sent to me.

This morning,  I paced around the house, not knowing what to do from halfway across the world.  I felt like I should be somewhere but I don't know where to go.  So here I am.  I feel I should write something here, he would have liked me to.

I've known him since college and we kept in touch through the years. We saw each other every few years and picked up where we left off.  We laughed about howling at the moon in front of the dorms in college.  Funny that  I think I can hang out with him anytime now,  just by thinking about him.

Well, Fermin, dear friend have fun wherever you are.  I know you enjoyed your life.  You have touched many lives.

I miss you.

Awoooo!!!

  3. When we saw each other last Thursday, Fermin gave me this wooden Asian goddess figurine. And typical of Fermin, he said it's from Cambodia, or maybe Vietnam, or Thailand! It's sitting on my desk right now and every time I look at it, I hear him speak. I will miss him terribly. And we did talk about you Pena, and how he loved your writing and that he's happy that you're happy.
